Photographing St. Lucia

I spent two weeks from December 2019 to January 2020 on the Caribbean island of St. Lucia. I was taking vacation from my day job but of course was thrilled at the chance to photograph this incredible island, which despite its small size (you can drive the perimeter of the island in about 5 hours) is incredibly geographically diverse. The island is covered in steep mountains, lush jungle and rainforest, waterfalls, an active volcanic crater, and of course innumerable beaches. The surrounding waters are some of the best scuba and snorkeling areas in the Caribbean. I took my camera everywhere we went - including to the top of St. Lucia’s most famous mountain peaks - Gros Piton and Petit Piton - which feature heavily in my photographs from the trip (they dominated the landscape, visible from nearly everywhere we went including the view from our hotel room balcony). Having a full two weeks also gave me the opportunity to see and photograph the landscape in different weather conditions, cloud cover, lighting and so on which allowed me to capture so many memorable sunsets, cloud formations, light rays, rainstorms, and other moments I will never forget from one of the most beautiful places on earth.

Unsurprisingly, over the course of my two weeks there, I took over 3,000 photos - probably about 1,000 of which were for time lapses which will appear in a video I am working on. I spent weeks after the trip culling and editing these photos. My best images from this trip are now available on this site as part of my portfolio (crossing over all of the main categories on my site, including landscape, nightscape, travel, and wildlife) and certain images are available as prints in my print store.

I hope you enjoy these images and they instill in you some of the same sense of wonder and beauty that I had when experiencing them first hand.
