Returning To A Favorite Spot

Over Labor Day Weekend, I went back up to the family cabin in northeastern West Virginia. The area is one of my favorites to photograph, with a few specific spots in particular that have become favored photographic subjects. Many photographers will tell you that it is important to return to a particular subject matter repeatedly in order to capture it in different conditions - weather, light, etc. This is certainly true, and will lead to better results. I constantly have to balance re-shooting the same locations over and over again with forging into new places - I enjoy the give and take of this approach, which allows one to engage in both the technical and orderly aspects of photography (such as refining a composition of the same subject over time) with the creative and improvisational aspects of photography (such as preparing a new composition during the first visit to a new scene). Vacillating between these methods helps keep photography fresh for me. Hopefully they help me to constantly improve in both my process and results.
